CCP Campaign is another troubling sign that authoritarian China Doesn’t respect self-expression or human rights

DELRAY BEACH – Truth Wins Out (TWO) condemned China today for its efforts to disappear effeminate men from media representations. According to news reports, China is cracking down on what it calls a “male feminization” problem. It is part of President Xi Jinping’s neo-Cultural Revolution. According to Bloomberg, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “plans to strengthen physical education for the nation’s adolescent boys to combat the phenomenon.” The BBC also reports that “China’s broadcasting regulator has said it will ban ‘effeminate’ aesthetics in entertainment shows.”

“China doesn’t have a ‘male feminization’ problem, it has an authoritarian problem,” said Truth Wins Out’s Executive Director Wayne Besen. “China under President Xi has slid backwards on human rights and the world is watching and taking note of China’s increasingly abusive behavior towards minorities.”

Representing more than 18-percent of the world’s population, any move that China makes to restrict rights or demean entire groups of people has a disproportionate impact on humanity.

The BBC continues, writing that the latest Chinese efforts are part of a tightening of rules over what it described as “unhealthy content” in programs. The authorities pledged to promote what it defined as more masculine images of men and criticized male celebrities who use lots of makeup.

“China’s ridiculous actions won’t make a single person more masculine, but they will stifle free self-expression and cause grief for sexual minorities and others who don’t fit into China’s false and idealized version of manhood,” added TWO’s Besen.

Truth Wins Out educates the world on the harm caused by destructive “ex-gay” conversion programs, while fighting to eliminate anti-LGBTQ prejudice and discrimination. We believe that genuine freedom and contentment derive from authenticity and living one’s truth.
