Last night, I squared off on the Alan Colmes radio show against Texas “ex-gay” therapist Jerry Mungadze who claims he can turn gay people straight through a bizarre method he invented known as Right Brain Therapy. On the Joni show he said:
The good news is, at least with the people that I’ve seen, not a lot of people, when the healing takes place those areas of the brain that were showing the homosexuality show heterosexuality. I have had several people who when I looked at them I couldn’t tell the difference between a heterosexual who never was homosexual and them, which means the brain is able to go back and fire the way it is supposed to be, which is an argument against the whole idea of someone was born that way.
On the show, I offered Mungadze $10,000 if he could scientifically prove his technique. He agreed to the challenge and said he would work with Dr. J. Michael Bailey from Northwestern University to test his quack cure.
Thanks to Mungadze I have invented a new word — “Quackpot.” It’s a mix of the words quack and crackpot — which seems to be the most accurate description I could find.
Dr. Throckmorton looked a bit closer at Right Brain therapy and found that Mungadze’s “science” involves using crayons. According to Dr. Throckmorton:
Apparently, pink relates to femininity, red to anger/aggression, and so on. He says he can tell gay people apart from straights; and when they revert to heterosexuality, he can tell by how they color between the lines.
Who needs brain scans when you have crayons?
Maybe Mungadze will upgrade and start finger painting in the near future.
