Ray Ivey, the pastor who is hosting a national “ex-gay” conference this month in Oklahoma City, had a revealing post on Facebook on Nov. 6, 2009. He sure has one heck of a sense of humor.
That Ivey implied a life with HIV is worth less — even if it is a deer — is telling and indicative of his backward mindset. I know this was just a failed joke — but it really wasn’t funny. Remember this stab at humor when the “ex-gays” are on stage weeping with mascara running down their faces while proclaiming their “love” for LGBT people.
Here is Rev. Ivey’s contact information if you want to let him know what you think of his comedic talents:
Ivey’s Cherokee Hills Baptist Church will be welcoming the Restored Hope Network (RHN) on June 21-22. RHN is a radical group that splintered from Exodus International after that organization’s leader, Alan Chambers, claimed that repatative therapy was a joke and people cannot pray away the gay. Last month, RHN named its “Board of Reference,” which is stacked with hate group leaders and an anti-masturbation activist.
Today, I do not consider myself “ex-gay” and I no longer support or promote the movement. Please allow me to be clear: I do not believe that reparative therapy changes sexual orientation; in fact, it does great harm to many people.
Still, Anne soldiers on peddling lies and selling snake oil. She will be joined by Desert Stream Ministries’ Andrew Comiskey, whose group is best known for sexual abuse scandals that have harmed his clients. Comiskey is the creator of the “ex-gay” workbook, “Living Waters,” and wrote a book, “Pursuing Sexual Wholeness” where he says homosexuality is demonic and an example of “spiritual disfigurement.” According to his book:
“Satan delights in homosexual perversion because it not only exists outside of marriage, but it also defiles God’ very image reflected as male and female….Another related source of demonization is the homosexual relationship itself….that attachment and communion are indeed inspired, but the source is demonic.”
Truth Wins Out will be on the ground working to counter RHN’s lies with a wonderful OKC organization, The Cimarron Alliance. More details to soon follow on our plans.
