Truth Wins Out

Vile Bigotry Spewed in College Chats Show What Conservatives Value

A couple of weeks ago, I reported on the radicalism of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), which is connected to Project 2025. After examining their extremist programming, which targets impressionable college Republicans, I expressed alarm: “I shudder to contemplate what radicalized conservative youth…will mean for the future of our country.” What I didn’t expect were the rotten chickens to come home to roost so quickly.

The Miami Herald released a series of vile conversations that occurred in a private college Republican chat group, which was created by Abel Alexander Carvajal, secretary of the Miami Dade County Republican Party. The shocking chats took place in 2025, during a two-and-a-half-week period in September and October.

The chat group participants included some of the Florida International University campus’ top conservative leaders: the county GOP secretary, FIU’s Turning Point USA chapter president and the former College Republicans recruitment chair.

The text group quickly degenerated into ugly racial slurs against Black people, vile antisemitism, caveman-level misogyny, glorification of Nazis and an open sewer of homophobia. Variations of the N-word were spewed more than 400 times.

Of all the bile hurled in the chat group, what stood out was the reaction to the hate by Dariel Gonzalez, then the College Republicans’ recruitment chair.  He responded to multiple calls for violence against black people by saying: “How edgy.”

When I was in college, if we wanted to be edgy, we’d dye our hairdo, find some retro clothes at the thrift store or discover a cool new underground band. Apparently, for many of today’s college Republicans, “edgy” is regurgitating Ku Klux Klan tropes.

The Miami Herald reported that William Bejerano, who tried to start a pro-life group at Miami Dade College, “posted a block of text calling for dozens of acts of extreme violence against Black people, who he referred to using the n-word, including crucifying, beheading and dissecting people.”

How Cool. So Edgy.

Ian Valdes, the Turning Point USA FIU chapter president wrote, “I’m more authoritarian than you buddy, I think the church should run the government. During another conversation, Valdes said, “fiscally conservative all the way is so gay” and “Hitler himself wasn’t a fiscal conservative.”

The Miami Herald laid out the stomach-turning gutter-level hate, which revealed how many of today’s young “conservatives” regularly talk:

The group chat members — which included some women — also frequently discussed sex, sometimes describing women as “whores” and at one point using the k-word, a slur for Jewish people, to describe women they avoid.

Gonzalez wrote: “You can fuck all the Kikes you want. Just don’t marry them and procreate.”

Valdes responded, “I would def not marry a Jew,” before changing the group chat’s name from “Uber Retarded Yapping” to “Gooning in Agartha”.

“Gooning” is a gen-Z slang term for male masturbation, while “Agartha” is a mythical white civilization promoted by Heinrich Himmler, one of the most powerful leaders in Nazi Germany next to Hitler. Gonzalez reportedly described Agartha to the group chat as “Nazi heaven sort of”.

“Ew you had colored professors?!” Gonzalez wrote at another point. “I reguse [sic] to be indoctrinated by the coloreds.” He told the group he used the term “colored” because, “I was told we can’t say black anymore.” A couple days later, he added: “Avoid the coloreds like the plague.”

The “edgy” conversation turned to a black student who allegedly left FIU’s College Republicans after a member of the group “called her the [N-word]”:

Carvajal wrote: “Why didn’t miggress leave?” Elsewhere in the chat, the publication reported that Carvajal used “Miggress”, “Migglet” and “Migger” to refer to Black women, Black children and Black people, in general.

It would be comforting to say that this right-wing shit show is an aberration, but the facts say otherwise. In October 2025, Politico reported on a similar scandal with young party activists in New York, Vermont, Arizona and Kansas. These Republicans sent out thousands of racist and homophobic messages over Telegram.

The fact that the authors of these messages express their hate so freely, suggests a comfort level with such language and a frequency of slurs so great that they are second nature. Rarely do these offenders appear to be the slightest bit concerned that they are engaging in ruinous behavior or that they could degrade their family name or short circuit their future careers.

The nonchalance at spitting out slurs and the ease of offense hints at a much broader problem. Has the hopeful Obama generation given way to a cynical, cantankerous generation infected with spiteful intolerance? Has America come this far, in the quest for civil rights and mutual respect, only to have raised a fetid crop of fascists?

Of course, such detestable behavior doesn’t represent the majority of today’s college students. But it clearly represents a sizable enough number of today’s youth to create a real cultural crisis that must be immediately addressed before it’s too late.

Albeit we shouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised at our bitter harvest of young, hardened hearts and mangled minds. A neglected generation of angry smartphone addicts has come of age, who have grown up with Donald Trump as the dominant political figure of their time. They have normalized Trump’s hatred, nastiness, name calling, lying and cheating, because he has been the most consistent, “normal” presence in their lives.

What were you expecting to happen to these poor children who were raised to see Trump’s “morality” as the path to achieving success? As the old saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out”.

The students at FIU suffered the double-whammy of misfortune. Not only was the odious Trump their preeminent political role model, but their minds were molded by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). This repugnant “leader” banned books, attacked LGBTQ people, downplayed slavery, and repeatedly failed to condemn Nazis who marched across the Sunshine State, including in front of Walt Disney World. When Floridians begged DeSantis to address the state’s mushrooming nazi problem, he claimed that his critics were trying to “smear” him.

The great role models for these vindictive FIU students continued in 2022, when Proud Boy thugs secured seats on the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee. The New York Times reported:

Their ranks include adherents who face criminal charges for participating in the Capitol attack: Gilbert Fonticoba has been charged with obstructing Congress. Gabriel Garcia, a former Army captain who says he has left the group, has been charged with interfering with law enforcement officers during the civil disorder on Jan. 6, 2021.

Of course, the biggest whitewash of all was lionization of slain Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. He was a hardcore racist and all-around-bigot who said of Martin Luther King Jr: “MLK was awful…He’s not a good person.” He also criticized the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964, “The Civil Rights Act…created a beast, and that beast has now turned into an anti-white weapon.”

After his death, Kirk’s act devolved into a cesspool of hate, with his imitators diving into sewers he’d never dare. Commentators like Nazi Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens, Andrew Tate and Tucker Carlson, have enraptured a young generation of impressionable minds with mindless conspiracies and a long list of scapegoats to blame for life’s failures—whether it be Jews, immigrants, LGBTQ people, liberals or women.

Paradoxically, Republicans talk incessantly about “the children”. Yet they continue to assist President Trump’s abominable cover-up of the Epstein files. They are even willing to send “the children” to war with Iran to create a distraction from Trump’s perversion. They screech about the impact of drag queens on kids but then allow their own children to fill their brains with fascist podcasts that praise Hitler. Right wing conservatives talk a good game on “family values”, but the way their children turned out reveals exactly what values they truly stand for. They have poisoned the minds of the children they profess to love and now their little Frankenstein Monsters have grown up to become a national security threat and a menace to civilization.
