Ron DeSantis Forgets He’s Only Florida’s Governor, Not The King

Delray Beach, FL – Truth Wins Out responded to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) contemptible gaslighting over his heavy-handed, Big Government attempt to intrude upon local communities and cover-up rainbow crosswalks.
Today, the governor flippantly responded to public officials and citizens opposed to, and alarmed by, his discriminatory actions in Delray Beach, Key West, and Fort Lauderdale. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported:
“It’s like they think that they should just be a law unto themselves,” DeSantis said, adding, “You’re always gonna have the Key Wests of the world that are going to virtue signal. That’s just what they do.” Ultimately, he said, the LGBTQ+ markings will be eliminated, along with many other kinds of decorative street markings that Florida no longer allows.
Truth Wins Out was appalled, but not surprised, by DeSantis’ arrogant dismissal of local concerns and his continued attempt to erase LGBTQ visibility. The organization called for creative, open defiance of DeSantis’ autocratic edicts.
“Ron DeSantis is gaslighting Floridians. He is a bully who is ‘vice signaling’ that he disrespects the LGBTQ community and will run roughshod over local government,” said Truth Wins Out’s Executive Director Wayne Besen. “We must learn to say ‘No’ and engage in open defiance of DeSantis’ toxic anti-LGBTQ crusade and growing intrusion into local decisions. Even if we must get creative with civil disobedience, such as deploying drones to drop rainbow paint on crosswalks, we shall persist. Ron DeSantis sometimes forgets he’s only the governor of Florida, not the king.”
Besen continued: “It is outrageous that DeSantis is undermining free speech and politicizing crosswalks, while disingenuously blaming others for doing so. Today’s remarks were just as dishonest as when the governor absurdly tried to justify removal of the rainbow crosswalks by invoking traffic safety.”
